A lasting tribute to Alfrieda and Rod Kindon, marking the beginning of a new community space for growth, wellbeing and connection at Salford City Roosters.

Salford City Roosters are proud to mark the official opening of our new Community Garden, launched at our opening home fixture of the season.

The occasion was made even more special with the placement of a memorial bench in honour of Alfrieda and Rod Kindon —two individuals whose legacy and contribution to the club continue to inspire everything we do today. The bench will stand as a lasting place for reflection, remembrance, and appreciation within the heart of our club.

The Community Garden forms a key part of our wider Community Green Hub project, delivered in partnership with Groundwork Greater Manchester . This initiative is focused on creating a sustainable, welcoming green space that supports health, wellbeing, and community connection for all involved with the club.

This is just the beginning. Over the coming months, we will continue to develop and grow the garden into a space the whole club can be proud of—supporting activities, education, and opportunities for people of all ages to get involved.

We are now actively encouraging volunteers from across the club to play a part in shaping the future of the garden. Whether you can spare an hour here and there, or a bit more regularly, your time will make a real difference.

Honouring a Founding Father of Our Club

It is with deep sadness that the Salford City Roosters family announces the passing of Rod Kindon — a founding member of our club, and one half of the extraordinary partnership that shaped our identity for more than four decades.

More than 40 years ago, Rod and his wife Alfrieda planted the seed that grew from a humble acorn into the proud club we know today. Together, they built more than a rugby team — they created a home. A place where players, families, and supporters could belong, develop, and thrive. Their values, spirit, and unwavering belief in the power of community sport became the foundation on which everything else was built.

A Transformative Moment in Our History

One of the defining chapters in our club’s story began when Rod and Alfrieda, alongside a dedicated committee, discovered a derelict open‑air school in Eccles. Where others saw a forgotten, crumbling site, they saw potential.

Through hard work, countless volunteer hours, and sheer determination, that abandoned building became our former clubhouse. It was a turning point — a moment of growth and identity — marking the time when the club became known as Eccles ARLFC .

Their vision didn’t just give the club a physical home. It gave hundreds of young people a place to belong, learn, and grow.

Securing a Future for Generations to Come

Rod and Alfrieda’s impact didn’t stop there. They played a crucial role in securing funding for our current facilities, ensuring the club’s long‑term future. Their work laid the foundations — both literally and figuratively — for the environment we enjoy today. It is a debt we will always remain grateful for.

A Home for Players Who Reached the Highest Level

Thanks to their leadership, Eccles ARLFC — and later Salford City Roosters — became a nurturing ground for talent across the region. Many players came through our gates, including future professionals such as Adrian Morley , who first found a rugby league home in the environment Rod and Alfrieda created.

Their influence extended far beyond our own club, shaping the development and spirit of the game across Greater Manchester.

Reunited With His Soulmate

While we mourn Rod’s loss deeply, many take comfort in knowing he is reunited with his beloved Alfrieda. Their partnership was legendary — in life, in rugby, and in their tireless service to the community. Together, they shaped the character and culture of this club for more than four decades.

The outpouring of love from across the rugby league family — past players, referees, rival clubs, parents, volunteers, and lifelong supporters — has been overwhelming. On behalf of everyone at Salford City Roosters, thank you for your messages, memories, and support during this difficult time.

Salford City Roosters Announce New Head Coach for 2026

Grozy returns to lead the Roosters with experience, passion, and a focus on togetherness

Salford City Roosters are delighted to confirm that Anthony Grosvenor (Grozy) has been appointed as Head Coach for the 2026 season.

Grozy is a well-known figure across Salford rugby league. A former player for the club during its National Conference League days as Eccles ARLFC, he brings a wealth of coaching experience from Langworthy and a deep understanding of what rugby means to this community.

He will be supported by a strong leadership group of senior players, including Adam Walker, Lee Murphy, and Scott Lomax, along with club stalwart Mike Foster, who continues to lead the A Team.

Chairman Dave Campbell said:

“Firstly, a huge thanks to Club Captain Marc Jones for his leadership throughout the 2025 season. Grozy gets Salford City Roosters. He sees the potential we have here in this young Men’s Team. As a proud Salfordian, he will build a strong culture of togetherness and strengthen the connection between our Junior, Youth, and Senior players. Welcome aboard.”

A New Space for Community, Wellbeing and Nature

Salford City Roosters Green Community Hub

Over the past few months, we’ve been gathering ideas and listening to what our community would like to see in our new Green Community Hub . We’re delighted to share the first concept design , created by our landscape architect, which brings together many of those ideas into an exciting vision for the future.

Some of the key features include:

�� Log circle and natural play areas for children to enjoy safely.
�� Espalier fruit trees, raised planters and picnic spaces to grow, share and enjoy fresh food.
�� Sensory paths, quiet corners and pergolas for relaxation, wellbeing, and connection with nature.
�� Wildflower meadows, insect hotels and bird boxes to support local wildlife.

This is an important next step in shaping a space that belongs to all of us – a garden that will grow alongside our rugby club, and support both physical and mental wellbeing across the community.

�� We’ll be holding our next Steering Group meeting on Tuesday 16th September at 5.30pm at the clubhouse. This is a great opportunity to see the plans in person, ask questions, and share your views.

☀️ Sunshine, Smiles, and Nature Discovery at the Club

Families enjoy a sunny morning exploring our garden space and discovering the wildlife on their doorstep.

We couldn’t have asked for better weather for our latest Green Community Hub event! On Friday morning, our club grounds came alive with the sound of laughter, curiosity, and conversation as we explored what’s already growing and living in our new garden space .

From bug hunts to spotting the plants and flowers growing in our green areas, it was a fantastic way for families to connect with nature and with each other.

A huge thank you to Suzanne at Groundwork for her support, and to every child, parent, grandparent, and new visitor who joined us. Your enthusiasm made the morning so special, and it was wonderful to see new faces discovering the club’s green spaces for the first time.

This event is part of our ongoing commitment to making the club a welcoming and vibrant Green Community Hub for everyone in Salford – a place to enjoy the outdoors, learn something new, and meet others.

Men’s and Women’s Teams Now Training Weekly

Wednesday evenings at Salford City Roosters are buzzing with energy as both our Men’s and Women’s Masters Teams train side by side in a welcoming, supportive environment.

Masters Rugby League is a modified, social version of the game , open to anyone aged 35 (30 for women) and over. Whether you're returning to rugby or trying it for the first time, it’s all about enjoyment, keeping active, and being part of a team.

One new participant shared:

“It’s totally different from anything I’ve ever done. The opportunity came up, and I thought — why not? Instead of sitting at home watching telly, I’m getting out, learning something new, and having a good laugh.”

Another added:

“For me, it’s an hour of escape from the day-to-day chaos. I work full-time and juggle family life — this gives me space, friendship, and the biggest mental boost.”

The sessions are designed to suit all fitness levels, with an emphasis on fun, support, and community. No experience needed — just turn up and give it a go.

Thanks to everyone who joined our Learn to Plant event at Salford City Roosters!

Together, we replanted all the patio pots ��, shared tips, and sent people home with strawberry and marigold plants ��. It was a great day of learning, laughter, and community — with residents, members, young and old, and even a visit from our local councillors ��.

Special thanks to volunteer John Price , a parent from our U7s, who has used his work volunteering day to support the project:

Remembering Andy Haines: A Father, Volunteer, and Friend to All at Salford City Roosters

Standing Together for Andy Haines’s Family

It is with a heavy heart that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Andy Haines, a devoted father, volunteer, and beloved member of the Salford City Roosters family. Andy’s three boys have grown up with rugby at the Roosters, and he was always there on the sidelines, cheering them on and giving his time generously to our club. His warmth and commitment touched so many lives, and his presence will be deeply missed.

As a club, we stand united in support of Andrea and the boys. The Roosters family is here for them now and will continue to be by their side in the years to come. Andy’s legacy lives on in the spirit of our community, and we ask all of our extended Roosters family to rally behind his family during this time.

New Era for Salford City Roosters as Andy Daw Takes the Helm with Strong Coaching Team for 2025

Salford City Roosters are thrilled to announce the appointment of Andy Daw as the new head coach for our men’s team for the 2025 season. Andy brings extensive experience as a player, coach, and conditioning expert, with strong connections throughout the rugby league community. His passion for the sport and commitment to developing players are an ideal match for our club’s mission to create a thriving, inclusive environment.

We’re also pleased to confirm that Club Captain Marc Jones and Mike Foster will continue in their roles as Assistant Coaches, ensuring continuity and valuable leadership support for the team. Together with Andy, they form a dynamic coaching team that’s ready to drive the Roosters forward.

Dave Campbell, Chairman of Salford City Roosters, shared his enthusiasm for Andy’s appointment:

“We feel very lucky to be meeting Andy at this point in our journey. It is the first time this year, for a long time, we have seen two men’s teams take the field. And after a long hiatus from the National Conference League, I believe Andy has got the energy and passion to help us see a return to the National Conference League in the next three to five years. Andy has our full backing, and we look forward to seeing him out there in 2025 with his first squad. I would encourage players from across the region to reach out to us and come and get on board.”

This appointment builds on the incredible groundwork of Mark Moran , who has been a crucial part of our grassroots development. As he steps into his new role as Head of the Salford Red Devils Elite Development Squad, we want to sincerely thank Mark for his contributions and wish him every success in his first season with the Red Devils.

Salford City Roosters is one of the region's fastest-growing rugby league clubs, with 11 teams for boys and girls from Under 6s through to our senior men’s team in the North West Men’s League.

Salford City Roosters U14s Take the Division 2 Title in a Thrilling, Unforgettable Final!

Roosters U14s Triumph in Epic 1-0 Battle to Claim Division 2 Crown!

What a game! Salford City Roosters’ U14s pulled off an incredible win in today’s Division 2 League decider against Wigan St. Jude's, finishing with an almost unheard-of 1-0 scoreline in Rugby League. With just five minutes left on the clock, a 20-metre drop goal broke the deadlock, securing our U14s the Division 2 title in the most dramatic fashion.

This low score really shows just how solid both teams’ defenses were. Every player on that pitch put in a massive shift, and the discipline and respect on display were incredible. It was a battle of grit, teamwork, and holding the line right until the final whistle.

Hats off to our amazing U14s team, the dedicated coaches who have led them all season, and the supportive parents who’ve been behind them every step of the way. You’ve all played a part in making this season such a success!

We can’t wait to see what 2025 brings as our champions step up to Division 1 Rugby. Up the Roosters!

Roosters' Joe Griffiths Makes History with Red Devils Elite Academy

We’re incredibly proud to announce that Joe Griffiths, one of our own from the U18s, has become the first-ever signing for Salford Red Devils’ Elite Academy.

Joe has been a standout player at Salford City Roosters, developing under the guidance of Billy Hill and Shaun Atherton. His journey through the Rising Stars and Development Academy programmes has led to this incredible achievement, and we couldn't be prouder.

Known for his speed and try-scoring ability, Joe has made a huge impact on the field, representing England U17s and earning Player of the Tournament during a recent tour of France.

Joe shared his excitement: “It’s an honour to sign for the Red Devils. I’m extremely grateful for the coaches at Roosters and the Academy, and I look forward to repaying them through my performances.”

Donation of New Classroom and Storage Units to Salford City Roosters

Enhancing Youth Development with New Classroom and Storage Spaces at Salford City Roosters

The donation of new facilities to Salford City Roosters Rugby League Club, courtesy of Eric Wright Construction and Wernick Hire, includes a 32ft classroom unit and a 20ft storage unit, both fully refurbished to support the club’s ongoing efforts in youth development and community engagement.

The official opening ceremony was attended by the Deputy City Mayor of Salford, Councillor Jack Youd, along with representatives from Eric Wright Construction, Wernick Hire, and members of Salford City Roosters.

These new facilities provide essential space for classroom-based training and much-needed storage, while also enhancing the club’s ability to serve food and drinks on match days. This will enable us to further enrich the matchday experience and provide additional resources for young players.

Eric Wright Construction Operations Manager, Adam Pickford, expressed the company's dedication to supporting local communities: “This initiative underscores our commitment to providing valuable resources to organizations like Salford City Roosters. We hope these units will serve the community for years to come.”

Our Chairman, Dave Campbell, added, “The generosity shown by these businesses is invaluable. This new classroom cabin will play a crucial role in promoting the health and wellbeing of young people in Salford. Partnerships like these allow us to make a real difference in the community.”

We extend our thanks to Eric Wright Construction, Wernick Hire, and Newburn Power Solutions for their support, and look forward to seeing the positive impact of these new facilities on our players and the wider community.

Roosters Secure Back-to-Back Home Wins Against Staunch Wigan St Cuthberts!

The Roosters extended their winning streak at home with a hard-fought victory over a resilient Wigan St Cuthberts team yesterday at the Roosters.

The game kicked off with the Roosters showcasing their determination, as Billy Wadeson pierced through the defense to score a try 20 minutes in, with Danny Priestley successfully converting to lead 6-0 at halftime. Despite Wigan St Cuthberts pulling a try back early in the second half, the Roosters displayed solid game play and kept their composure.

Mick O’Boyle sealed the win with a late try, complimented by Priestley's accurate boot adding the extra two points. George Jamieson stood out, earning the Man of the Match accolades for his impressive performance.

There's no match scheduled for next week, but the Roosters will be looking to continue their fine form as they prepare to face the Premier Division's Halton Farnworth in a much-anticipated Cup match on Saturday, 6th April.

Thomas Inspires Comeback Victory!

Mark Thomas turned back the clock as the Roosters triumphed over a committed Burtonwood side yesterday at the Roosters. Despite falling behind 4-0 early in the game, the Roosters refused to yield. With a display of grit and determination, the Roosters surged ahead to an 18-4 lead that they maintained until the final whistle.

Try scorers included Mark Thomas, Callum Jones, and Callum Lawson, with Danny Priestley converting all three kicks.

Next Saturday, the Roosters return home to face Wigan St Cuthberts at 2.30pm, aiming to secure consecutive victories.

Greening Up Our Space: Progress Report

The Roosters environmental makeover is officially underway! We kicked things off by planting our first batch of 80 trees along the brook by the second pitch. ��

What's Next?

On March 9th a group of volunteers from an organisation called The Environment Partnership will help to plant 10 cherry trees in front of the fence between Roosters and the Union Club and another 70-80 smaller trees by the side of the second pitch.

Thanks to the amazing folks at City of Trees , this whole transformation isn't costing the Roosters any money, just a whole lot of elbow grease! ��

Why Trees?

City of Trees accessed funding for this project from the Nature for Climate Fund. By planting more trees, we're not only fighting climate change but also creating homes for birds, bugs, and all kinds of critters. Plus, trees make the air cleaner and boost our mood. Win-win!

Under the new management of Mark Moran , the Salford City Roosters Men's Team is gearing up for the new season with great numbers down for pre-season training.

The team trains on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7:00 to 8:15 at Salford City Roosters, and excitement is building as they look forward to their opening fixture on March 9th away at Ulverston.

Roosters host Port Salford Greenway Cleanup

In a collaborative effort to enhance the local environment, Salford City Roosters Chair Pat Connelly joined forces with Salford Mayor Paul Dennett and ASEZ WAO volunteers for a litter pick along Port Salford Greenway this past Sunday. Together, they successfully removed 200kg of rubbish, filling 50 bags and showcasing the Salford City Roosters' commitment to community improvement.

This inspiring collaboration has resulted in a cleaner Port Salford Greenway and reminds us of the importance of community involvement in maintaining public spaces.

Roosters U14s Triumph in BARLA National Cup Opener

Salford City Roosters Rugby League Club kicked off the 2024 season with a home victory in the U14s BARLA National Cup First Round. The U14s dominated the Chorley Panthers, securing a 42-0 win , with George Curzon picking up Man of the Match.

The U18s are set to face Ashton Bears at home in the BARLA National Cup on Saturday, January 27, at 1:30pm.

Chris Irwin returns to Roosters Coaching with the U14s

His rich rugby league background promises an inspiring journey for aspiring Roosters players. From playing and coaching professionally, including heading Salford Red Devils youth program, Chris brings invaluable experience to the U14s.

Joining Forces with Chris is former Rooster and Chris's son, 18 year old Finlay Irwin ! Finlay currently playing with Wigan Warriors Reserves, joins as Assistant Coach. This promises a blend of experience and the family connection.

Successful 2023 Season: Reached Lancashire Cup Semi Final, finished unbeaten in a 10-game run.
No Experience Required: All levels welcome to be part of Salford's only U14s team.

A Winning Blend of Speed, Spice, and Community Spirit!

We had an absolute blast at this Saturday's Race Night night event at Salford City Roosters. It was a fantastic Saturday evening filled with eight races, a raffle, and a delicious homemade curry. Not only was it a great time for everyone, but it also successfully raised funds for the club. A huge thanks to sponsors and the amazing volunteers who played a crucial role in making the night a hit.

Looking forward, there's more excitement on the horizon for us. The Roosters are gearing up for a festive Christmas Party on December 10th from 1-5 pm. Santa Claus will be making a special appearance, and tickets are a wallet-friendly £2 per child, available at the Club bar.

Salford City Roosters 2023 Presentation Events Recap

In a three-night spectacle at the Kindon Suite, Salford City Roosters celebrated the 2023 season with roaring success. Players spanning our U6s through to the Openage Team, were awarded for their outstanding contributions.

North West Counties Youth & Junior League Representatives presented Divisional Player of the Year awards to Sam Hill (U16s) and Finn Grant (U13s) for their stellar performances, clinching the most away-team Man of the Match awards in their divisions.

Adding to the accolades, the U18s Team received the Fair Play Team of the Year award, a testament to their sportsmanship.

As our players take a well-deserved breather, the countdown to Pre-Season training begins.

A Huge Thanks to all involved in making the 2023 Presentation Events a resounding success - including our very own Adrian Morley and Salford Red Devils Laura Bent!
